Horse in Armour

The series “Horse of War”, “Horse in Armour” & “Iron Horse” was inspired by the historic relationship between horse and man. For thousands of years the horse has been an ally of man in war, love and peace. Horses are truly ingrained in our history and heritage and have played a key role in the rise and fall of empires and civilizations.

During WW1 horses were an essential part of the war effort. They lead cavalry attacks, dragged the heavy guns through the Flanders mud, helped to transport weapons and supplies and carried the wounded and dying from the battlefield. They suffered more losses during this ferocious war than humans.

Since the 1930s, the increased pace of mechanization has meant that the domesticated horse has gradually slipped from our minds as the way to travel, farm and provide power.

The loyalty of the horse is unlimited. Once bonded they will follow a human to the ends of the Earth, carry the flag and charge into battle, even gallop over the edge of a cliff if asked. Their strength is powerful, mighty, magnificent; their grace is gentle, vulnerable, beautiful. Our histories are entwined and we owe a great deal of respect and gratitude to this iconic creature, the horse.
